Steve King & the Dittilies

Born To Be Wild

"Jim Selleck (whose comments are featured on 'Purest Love' below) was (and occasionally still is) the keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist for a group called 'Steve King and the Dittilies', a 50's & 60's band that plays around the Great Lakes region. In the first few years Jim and I were friends, I would grab a ton of people and we'd drive all over the place to go see him play. We even drove to Leamington, Ontario once, getting lost and very cold trying to find this tiny logging community out in the wilds of Ontario (which we did eventually find) to see them play. Jim knew I sang, and Steve King would let people come up and sing with them once in a while. This was the song I decided to try, Steppenwolf's 'Born to be Wild'. This was the 3rd or 4th time I'd done it with them, recorded at Panache in Birmingham, Michigan in 1980-something."
